Pearls: Embodiment of Love?

Pearls are Love Atelier Arachne.jpg

The Body as a Pearl

Pearls are not rocks; they are not stagnant in their existence. They are living gems. Their growth is seeded by a foreign entity, it is turned over and over until it is unrecognizable, transformed by thorough attention and time. And even then, the pearl grows until it is removed from it’s shell for an after-life on land.

Like a partner, pearls respond to care and attention. Like a body, a pearl responds to it’s environment.

When worn frequently, wearer’s skin oils are absorbed into the pearl contributing to their luminous appearance, and can even slowly shift it’s colors.   —Heirloom pearls have this additional personal touch to them.  They are part-relic of all the previous owners. The evidence of their frequency of wear are left in the luster, the multitude of days recorded in a way that cannot be translated, only felt.

Pearls embody the beauty of growth from discomfort, and the acceptance of change through time.
